THE LITTLE DRIFT

AROUND HERE /

The Little Drift in far East Gippsland sits between the Cape Conran Coastal Park and the small fishing village of Marlo, where the Snowy River meets the sea.  This part of Victoria is a little less travelled which means you may have to be more self-sufficient than you're used to, but it also grants you access to some of Australia's best kept secrets.

BEACHES /  Marlo boasts some incredible beaches. Check out Cape Conran Coastal Park and be sure to bring your outdoor adventure gear. Snorkeling, rock pooling, fishing and surfing are all accessible from The Little Drift.  The Snowy River Estuary, Frenches Narrows and MOTS Beach are all within a short drive. The closest beach is Point Riccardo, great for walks and whale watching but not safe for swimming.

WHALE WATCHING / Whale migration near Marlo peaks from May to July as they travel north and from August to November as they return south to Antarctica. You can spot humpback and southern right whales a 5 minute walk from The Little Drift at Point Riccardo or at any of the beaches at the Cape Conran Coastal Park.

WALKING / In and around Marlo and Cape Conran you will find walks suitable for all ages, fitness levels and weather conditions.  We recommend the East Cape Boardwalk and the MOTS Beach / Frenches Narrows walk.  For bird watching, take the Snowy River Estuary walk to meet the many local Superb Lyrebirds.

ADVENTURE / To see our beautiful landscape from a different angle, check our Snowy River Cycling for guided bike and e-bike tours or SUP Marlo for paddle boarding in the Snowy River Estuary.  Purchase snorkeling and fishing gear from Snowy River Bait and Tackle

EAT AND DRINK /  Sailors Grave Brewing is open from 12pm Wednesday to Sunday. Food, drink and great conversation available. Visit the Sailors Grave Brewing website to book your brewery tour and tasting.   The Marlo Hotel is perfect for a sunset drink and The Local at Marlo or Snowy River Tackle Café for coffee and breakfast.

SUPPLIES / We recommend picking up supplies in the surrounding towns of Orbost and Marlo. Morrisons Meats and The Fruit Shop in Orbost have fresh local fruits, vegetables and top quality East Gippsland meat. Check out the surrounding farm gate produce stops at Visit Gippsland or pick up more locally made product at The Local at Marlo.

INLAND / Follow the Snowy River up to Woods Point Camp Ground for a BBQ, or further up in the hills to Buchan and explore the magical Buchan Caves.
